Perhaps you never saw this in your email, for I have never received a response from you....

Dear Ms. Xxxx Xxxxxx (aka Kitchenette):

I am writing you to tell you that you should be more considerate in using people's real names in your blog posts ( http://thekitchenette.blogspot.com/2005/12/vie-de-viridian.html). I was your server a few weeks ago at Viridian. My manager read that blog entry recently and did not appreciate my honest style towards you and fired me over it. You should know that I have appealed to the owner of the restaurant, and as it turns out, that manager who fired me will be leaving soon and so I may be re-hired at that time. In any event, I am still losing out on many weeks pay and the whole experience has been quite distressing.

As blogs have hit the mainstream and many bloggers consider themselves journalists with the same rights and protections as any other journalist, I think it would only be appropriate for bloggers to follow normal journalistic codes and ethics as well. This, in my mind, would include disclosure that you are a journalist at some point during the encounter and getting permission before quoting someone in print. A simple workaround would be to blur out real names ( e.g. in photos of the bill) and abstractly refer to your servers without identifying information.

I hope you take these criticisms to heart!

Emmakoekohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01580743746494985350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15315161.post-1135283511645699802005-12-22T12:31:00.000-08:002005-12-22T12:31:00.000-08:00Thanks for the sound knowledge, Amanda! Cars, boats, trains and planes aside, Viridian is still as wallflower-esque as a restaurant comes on 14th Street-- quiet and camoflauged with the dark night sky. If it was a snake, it would have bit me.the kitchenettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05296941611268570573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15315161.post-1135221163696670892005-12-21T19:12:00.000-08:002005-12-21T19:12:00.000-08:00I encountered the salmon trout at a dinner last ye...I encountered the salmon trout at a dinner last year at Palette. The menu said steelhead trout, but when it arrived the server said "your salmon." Smelled like salmon, looked like salmon, and I stayed confused until I asked the chef later. Turns out, the steelhead trout is the same family as salmon and goes from stream to ocean and back, like salmon. It's also the same fish as rainbow trout, but the rainbows stay in the stream.

Maybe Viridian calls it salmon trout because they know if they just called it trout, many people would expect the white trout that comes from the East Coast.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13181434730386662275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15315161.post-1135191212812314472005-12-21T10:53:00.000-08:002005-12-21T10:53:00.000-08:00uh . . . have you ever heard of the G2? it goes r...uh . . . have you ever heard of the G2? it goes right down p street from georgetown to logan circle. stops right in front of the studio theatre, actually.Parker Livingstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01386261700946923505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15315161.post-1134750820383469812005-12-16T08:33:00.000-08:002005-12-16T08:33:00.000-08:00Mmmm..chipotle..Mmmm..chipotle..the kitchenettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05296941611268570573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15315161.post-1134639198301179452005-12-15T01:33:00.000-08:002005-12-15T01:33:00.000-08:00ahhh i used to park at the bethesda safeway to get...ahhh i used to park at the bethesda safeway to get chipotle. the memories..

but that was only a burrito. grocery store parking for a sit-down meal is bold.

i like your stylesethlavdchttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03770060859969000889noreply@blogger.com
